Based in the metropolitan New York City area, the Englewood Chamber Players was founded in 1992 by violinist Gabriel Schaff as a not-for-profit organization with the mission to present educational and historical concerts for local communities and for those underserved by live classical music. The group is comprised of professional musicians who seek to enrich and enlighten their communities with the universal language of music.
Outside of their work with the Englewood Chamber Players, member musicians regularly appear with such groups as the New Jersey Symphony, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York City Ballet, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and Princeton Symphony, and regularly perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall and NJPAC.
The Englewood Chamber Players offer a range of engaging and accessible chamber music programs for diverse ensembles, from solos to sextets, and can tailor their programing to a wide variety of venues and audiences. Current programs offerings include:
· Music by women composers celebrating the centennial of the 19th Amendment
· A retrospective of chamber music by Beethoven in celebration of his 250th birthday
· New and old music from the Viennese schools featuring Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
· Music influenced by the 20th-century Industrial Age
· Lost and found masterpieces from the Baroque Era
and of course, music by American composers in celebration of our semi-quincentennial.
Since 2025, Artistic Director Gabriel Schaff, in partnership with Stamford Connecticut based Orchestra Lumos, has presented an ever increasing selection of hour-long spoken multimedia presentations of the lives of the great composers. These have included a three part series on Beethoven, Dvorak’s 1892-1895 residency in New York that changed American music, and a series on 20th century American musical giants Gershwin, Copland and Bernstein. Future presentations will include Joplin, Cage, and others.
